Cupping, a form of Traditional Chinese Medicine that involves placing a cup with vacuum suction over the skin to "pull" noxious elements to the surface has gained popularity in recent years. Many acupuncturists use cupping in addition to needling.
First generation cups require removal of air via a flame to create the suction, and second generation cups connect to a hand or electrical pump to create the suction.
The newest generation of cups are electronic "intelligent breathing" devices that use an internal pump to create the vacuum, plus a sensor that detects any drop in pressure and activates the pump to bring it back to the desired pressure.
The electronic cupping device can be used to treat sprains, strains, muscle spasms, trigger points and similar conditions. It creates and holds a suction (negative pressure) over the affected area, which draws up inflammatory substances from the injury site allowing it to heal better and faster. Use it in conjunction with ice therapy, red light therapy or pulsed EMF to heal injuries faster.
